5 Tips for Diamond Painting Family Fun During Quarantine

I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical. I wasn’t sure that Diamond Painting would really hold my kids’ attention. And, I was almost positive it wouldn’t be something that we could do together. Boy was I wrong!

They love it!! And, there wasn’t even fighting over it, which after a week stuck in the house together was a miracle in itself.

So, here are a few tips on how to have family fun with Diamond Painting:

1. Have A Plan

You know how siblings are—everything has to be fair. There are two options on how to handle this.

1. Everyone has their own kit.
2. You figure out who gets to do what parts.

Our first kit was the unicorn kit 🦄 that you see in these pictures. Right off the bat my 8-year-old and 10-year-old claimed the bright and colorful areas they wanted to do. Luckily, my 13-year old was happy to do any part of it.

We made sure it was clear which parts certain people wanted to do. The rest was up for grabs to whoever wanted to work on it at the time.

2. Choose a kit everyone likes

If you’re all going to be working on a kit together, make sure you choose something that everyone can get excited about. While I’d love to do some of the signs, my kids just aren’t going to care about them. So, those will be ones that I do on my own.

You can really add to the fun by allowing everyone to choose their own or to order personalized ones. Both options are a fun way to let your kids decorate their bedrooms.

3. Let multiple people work at once

If you have more than one kit or have done kits in the past, you have multiple pens and can have more than one person placing diamonds at a time. If you have a smaller kit this might be a little tricky, but still doable. And, if you have a larger one, it’s easy to have more than one person working at once.

If you’re going to be working on your first kit, you can always buy additional pens so you can have the whole family working together.

4. Do your best to relax with your kids

Diamond Painting is super relaxing doing it by yourself. I find it to be a lot more fun, relaxing, and fulfilling than coloring. But, when you add a few kids into the mix, it can start to have the opposite effect if you aren’t prepared.

For example, diamonds are going to get spilled. 💎 And, you’ll end up with mixed colors. These things drive me crazy. But I would have ruined the fun for everyone if I made a big deal out of them.

Kids don’t spill on purpose, even if sometimes it feels like it. And, thankfully there are plenty of extra diamonds so when some spill on the floor or are mixed together and hard to separate, all is not lost. And, by the end, we had a mix of diamonds on the table and we would just find the ones we need as we went.

5. Listen to some music

🎵 A little music adds even more fun to the diamond painting party. You could create a playlist by letting each family member pick a few songs to add. Make sure you have them all spread out so there aren’t any fights about someone getting two songs in a row.

Or, you can make it fun for yourself by creating your own playlist of 80’s and 90’s music.
