Imagine this. You've got thousands of diamonds all carefully laid out on the table, and you're super ready to begin your latest and greatest kit.

There's only one problem: none of your containers have lids! Surprise, your dog just jumped up onto your workstation, and now your diamonds are EVERYWHERE.

There's gotta be a better way! We dug into submissions from our Paint With Diamonds Facebook community to find the absolute best DIY Diamond Painting Storage hacks that'll take your new obsession to the next level!

1. Use A K-Cup Spinner To Hold Your Diamonds.

Coffee addict? Then you probably have one of these wonderful K-Cup Organizing spinners lying around! PWD fan Carrie Frazier created a diamond holder out of a K-Cup holder! How innovative. Thanks for the tip Carrie!!!

In case you need to buy one, Amazon's got them for about $14.99.

2. Medicine Boxes Are Also Handy To Sort Your Gems.

"I use medicine boxes. Works awesome! I'd be afraid of that getting knocked over and a lid coming off. Trust me dumping the diamonds all over a carpeted floor is NOT fun!"

Andria Mary Classen hits the nail on the head with this pro organizing tip!

3. Empty Out An Egg Carton And Sort Your Rhinestones!

This diamond storage tip comes to you over easy! Use an old egg carton to sort your labeled bags of diamonds for later use.

When you're ready to use a specific color, simply empty out a number of beads into your organizing tray and put the rest back in the egg carton. Shoutout to Niña Conklin for the pro tip!

4. Go For Tupperware Containers If You Have Loads Of One Color.

Did you just get a painting with a massive amount of one color? Are you swimming in 310s right now and not sure what to do withy yourself?

"I have 38,916 drills in 195 bags. So not fun. I had to put it in a rubbermaid bowl just to have them fit." Awesome tip, Jessica Bolinger!

5. Get Lazy And Splurge On Amazon Prime.

Okay, so this one isn't so much "DIY," but it certainly gets the job done well! Bead storage trays like this awesome Elizabeth Ward 45-Piece Storage Set ($17.01 on Amazon) can keep the more obsessive compulsive among us happy.

DP enthusiast Kathy Oakley says, "Since this is permanent storage, I used my label maker. The labels that come with the system go on the bottom of the containers so it is hard to see at a glance.

My why to do my diamond painting quicker and easier
1ST – I take the diamond paint out of the package and I put under something long and heavy to flatten it couple days

2ND- I Take the paper or plastic off the diamond paint and Then I stick on these non stick papers on diamond paint Over LAP the paper on the canvas and each paper -I bought on amazon 200pc 2different sizes I Do sections on the diamond paint 3-bottom 3-middle 3-top
    [Start laying the papers down in order start with section your going to do last toward the section your going to start with }
Then I put the diamond paint back under what ever using to flatten diamond paint for couple more days

3RD – I sort all my beads I put them in small containers I number and code each one with little white price stickers while diamond paint is being flatten down – can buy small 10containers for $1 at dollar store square and round containers I number and code them and then put them in 12×12 photo storage or can use any plastic container

4TH- I put everything I use to do diamond paint into a plastic container so I have right next to me in one spot

5TH-I start doing the Diamond Paint I do each section at a time After each section I tape the paper to diamond paint of the section I use paint tape or any tape that will re-stick

6ST- After done with diamond paint I store all extra beads into a small baggies -I bought on 200 on amazon or can buy from Walmart, Joan
Then I put baggies with extra diamond into big clear folders use for papers – can use shoe boxes or photo boxes I do by the color theme
    reds /yellows /browns / so on

I buy picture frames little bigger to put the diamond paint into and color poster paper/board and glitter border tape I take the papers off the diamond paint I save the papers to reuse I cut around diamond paint almost close to diamonds and cut the color poster board to size of the frame Tape the diamond paint to the poster paper/board I use1inch glitter border tape – I tape around close to diamond edge onto poster

While I am doing my diamond paint I have my other diamond paint flattening out

I have bought 6 and 9 packs of small, clear plastic containers with lids from the Dollar Store to contain all of my diamonds. I also buy small round labels and put one on each container lid, labelled with the corresponding number/letter. I store everything in a bigger plastic container (also from the Dollar Store). This is a very inexpensive and convenient way to organize everything!

Is there a chart that have all the numbers and color of Diamond arts

  • Elaine said:

I have completed 7 kits. I, too, am addicted to doing diamond art. I would love to complete and sell to individuals who like the art but do not have time to complete.
The colors are different. DMC colors run the same from projects to projects. Number 500 from one kit will equal the same of another project using DMC. Other kits use other manufacturers different from DMC. Look at your colors, numbers, and labeling on your bead packets.
I haven’t yet but I am going to order the round bottles and storage case from Amazon for bead storage. I have some square storage cases but they do not fasten tightly. I will separate my beads by the labeling, DMC together and the others by the labeling on it.
While working with my beads, I cut a corner open on the bead bag and then drop down in a 3×5 plastic bag with the number written on it. This way I can dump my unused beads back in the bag out of the plastic tray until I’m ready for that color again.
Works really good for me. Thanks.

Ardith I put my pictures in regular frames with glass fronts. The glass helps hold the beads in. Before I put it in the frame, I use the roller I bought to gently press the picture against the glass.

How do you consolidate all extra leftover diamonds? All the numbers seem different. How do I know this Diamond is same color and will match. I have the small boxes, but I am unsure the leftover diamonds beads will match correctly to same color.

I ordered a custom photo diamond painting kit and I use the leftover diamonds to customize my design – by changing the diamond colour or by slightly redesigning the piece.

I use old film containers. I use small stickers for the top for the number and the symbol. After I’m done in the project is finished. I placed the sticker from the used container onto a small ziplock bag. That way I continue to hold the unused diamonds for projects that may be short diamonds. Always keep your old you may need them.

Do all the colours have the same numbers for all canvasses? Like……#3779 for what I’m doing now. Then down the road I do another canvass which happens to have a #3779. Are they the exact same?

I like idea #4 & 5. I have been saving my leftovers for quite some time waiting for ideas to store them. Thank you to everyone for yours. Right now I keep them in the packaging they come in and tape the last remaining drills shut, write on the tape the letter and number it refers to. When I’m done with the picture I put the small graph and picture in a baggy and keep it. Now I’ve got an idea what to do with them.

I bought a container with 40 small containers made for the storage of diamentes, for $13.50. Unfortunately, I would have to buy another 3 to take all my leftover diamontes, so I have started bagging the extras in small plastic bags bought on line……approx .10c a bag.
I too, have now completed several diamond paintings & have lots of extras left over after each completed painting.

Saving these diamontes can help when you run out of a colour before you have finished a painting……takes the frustration away when you have that same colour (or similar) left over.

If there are only small amounts left over, I tip them all into a small recycled jar & will use when I make succulent displays……making crazy footpaths etc. look pretty with all the colours mixed together.

Cottage Mills has amazing boxes nd cases multiple sizes. Amazon has them. I have all 3 cases nd all size boxes. Takes time matching but so worth it if got large collection like myself around 150!!!!

I went to the dollar store and bought the 2” by 2” plastic containers, 10 to a bag and I use them with my square diamonds. I bought the 2” x 2” round plastic containers for my round diamonds, also a 10 pack. When I am working on a project I put the diamonds in these containers cut the number, letter, symbol out and number them 1 thru 40 depending on how many colors there are and place them on the lids with tape so can use them again & again. Then in numerical order Ibplace them in a 12” x 12” square scrapbook container from Michaels. Then I store the left over diamonds in a 3” baggie from Walmart in the dmc number order. Which I then put in a 4” x 6” photo container which they have there own 12” x 12” storage containers also from Michaels. If I run across any colors by the same number I put them in the left over baggies in my kit and place them in my 3” x3” baggie. Seems like a lot of work but it works for me. Plus I have 2 seperate typed up a library sheets, (square or round)of all my colors I have.

I used empty RX pill containers. Took the prescription label off and made labels with the number and color code. I was able to keep a large amount of diamonds in one container. They are free and easy to use (especially if you do not have the child safety lock tops on them).

If your going to do more diamond paintings keep your extras, I’ve done 30 and sometimes you run out and if you save extras you may have that number or a color that’s so close that you can’t tell the difference, which has also happened to me. But I bought a book from Amazon on DMC Color Chart where someone has done the work and if you have some that don’t match the number you already have look in the book and find the color and number it. Also some don’t come with numbers and this book is great. Amazon has a 64 slot container where the containers are like tic tac containers and I’ve filled 4 boxes already

I found a cute storage container at Hobby Lobby. I let one of my granddaughters use the colors to make Christmas gifts for her mom and Nana – we made my son a portrait of her :) I love some of the ideas for storage here – I will definitely have to steal a few! I was also at my daughters for vacation – I brought my diamond kits with. She used a tracing tablet for her kit. worked better than the light I got from here. Mine arrived real loose and it goes out a lot.
